Pan Jet beats field

The former North Island sprinter. Pan Jet. showed that he could be a force to reckon with in the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton next Monday when he beat the class one, two, and three sprinters decisively at Rangiora yesterday. . Pan Jet, formerly trained at Awapuni by Garth Ivfl, but now a member of Ray Harris’s Tuahiwi stable, made short work of his rivals in the event at the Riccarton Turf Club’s trials. Pan Jet. which was bought by Mr D. G. J. le Compte and Mrs N. Z. Child, of Christchurch, after the first of his two winning runs against the open sprinters at the recent Nelson meeting, recorded Imln 12sec for 1200 m yesterday and ended the gallop

three lengths ahead of Hi Roona, which was followed home by Leopard. Lili, an acceptor for next Monday’s George Adams (Tattersail) Handicap, led all the way to win the 1600 m event for all classes at the trials. The Hoki-tika-trained mare was a length clear of Regal End at the finish after recording Imin 40.2 sec for the distance. Regal End saved second by a nose from No Decision and Panic, which could not be separated in third place. Franciscus, previously trained by Bill Turner at Washdyke, but now a member of Dave Kerr’s Riccarton stable, nosed out Risky Step to win the 1200 m event for classes four, five. • and maidens. Hi Chara, the best

of the others, was three-parts of a length back. Franciscus. an acceptor for the Papanui Handicap next Monday, recorded Imin 13.6 sec for the distance.

Spy Troop, from “Mick” MurUtt’s Riccarton stable, and Ashnelle, which John Parsons trains at Amberley, were decisive winners of the qualifying maiden events. The former recorded Imln 14.8 sec in beating AngeUno by two lengths in the first heat and Ashnelle was four lengths ahead of Dee Cee at the end of the second heat, run in Imln 14.5 sec.

The Murfitt stable was to the fore again in the trial for two-year-olds. The honours in this 1000 m event went to Spy Castle, which recorded Imin 2.4 sec for the distance and beat Flying Melda by two lengths.
