Wheelchairs at hospital

Sir, — Congratulations to Mrs Rose Casey (April 8) who complains about the shocking wheelchairs in which patients are wheeled at Christchurch Hospital. The rattle and noise of the wheelchairs is terrible and in many cases the ride is most uncomfortable. I also feel it is wrong for single orderlies to push and pull patients to and from physiotherapy. Dr L. McH. Berry, the Medical Superin-tendent-in-Chief for the North Canterbury Hospital Board says it is economical to use this method. Will he take responsibility for accidents or does he expect the orderlies to take the responsibility? — Yours, etc.,

ROBERT JONES. Apirl 6, 1979.
