N'ZPA Sydney The woman jockey, Linda Jones, Will represent New Zealand in the Ansett Australian Apprentices’ Invitation Cup (1200 m at Gosford, north of Sydney, on April 19. The race is for three-year-old horses and upwards and no allowances are allowed for apprentices. The meeting is expected to be strongly supported because it falls midwav through the rich Sydney Eastern Carnival at Randwick. Mrs Jones will be riding on equal terms against some of Australia’s top apprentices including Wayne Harris, who won the Golden Slipper Stakes on Century Miss on Saturday, and Brisbane’s Gary Palmer, who has won the two previous Apprentices’ invitation Cups. At RosehiU on Saturday, Mrs Jones rode for the second time in Australia, finishing fourteenth of 16 starters on Big Blckies in the $40,000 weight-for-age George Ryder Stakes (1400 m and eighth of 13 runners on Northfleet in the $150,000 weight-for-age H. E. Tancred Stakes (2400 m She is expected to return to New Zealand briefly this week before returning to race at Canterbury on Wednesday and will then remain for the Easter Carnival. She will ride the Wellington Derby winner, Holy Toledo, in the $200,000 A.J.C. Derby (2400 m on April 16 and Northfleet in the $156,000 Sydney Cup (3200 m on April 21.
