Gains from other churches

Sir, — I agree with Mrs D. Owers (April 3) that some churches are gaining large congregations while others are losing, but I cannot agree this is “sheep stealing” as suggested by your correspondent. It is true that crowds do attract crowds and this is the incentive for some to leave the nominal churches and join an active spirit-filled church. Some congregations have become so large that the number exceeds the total number of all the other district churches. Some districts are blessed with two

such churches as in Brighton where there is a congenial union. The majority of these newcomers are obviously “outsiders” who now find a better, more satisfactory way of life. The faithfully combined ministry of preaching and healing brings all this into fruition. — Ydurs, etc.,

A. DELHANTY, April 5, 1979.
