PA Auckland An Australian sought by Melbourne detectives came close to eluding the long arm of the law on Wednesday evening. He was seated on an Air New Zealand flight to the United States when Auckland police were asked to arrest him. Escape seemed inevitable as the aircraft taxied out for take-off from Auckland Airport. But a technical fault delayed the flight and the police were able to arrest the passenger. A man, aged 44. appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland on a provisional warrant related to alleged fraud offences ini volving $3400.
