OFFER FOR MILLER
(N.ZP. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, January 19. The chairman and joint managing director of R. W. Miller (Holdings), Ltd (Mr Archibald Taylor) today confirmed that offers had been made for a major shareholding in the company. Mr Taylor told Reuter Lady Miller, widow of the shipping and hotel magnate, Sir Roderick Miller, had received two offers. He was commenting on a statement by Lady Miller in a Sydney newspaper today that she had received offers from Ampol Petroleum, Ltd, and another source she did not name.
“We have received offers, but we don’t know what we are going to do,” Lady Miller was quoted as saying. Mr Taylor said he had been unable to contact Lady Miller to confirm the offer from Ampol and to confirm her comments.
Lady Miller was elected to the board of the company after Sir Roderick's death last year. One unconfirmed report today said Ampol was believed to have offered more than 210 c a share for Lady Miller’s 25 per cent shareholding in the company, making her shareholding worth at least $4.7m.
