Arrest ' a shock’

(N.Z. Press Association)

TIMARU, Jan. 19.

“It’s been quite a shock,” Miss Vida Todd, a cousin of Mr Garfield Todd, said in Timaru tonight, commenting on the reported imprisonment in Rhodesia of Mr Todd and his daughter. The 79-year-old Miss Todd, now living at the Margaret Wilson Home for the Aged in Timaru, said the first she heard of the matter was an announcement on a television newscast. “I’ve had Christmas mail from Garfield and Judith, but there was no indication of any immediate trouble, not even a whisper. I think it was a surprise to them both,” she said.

Miss Todd said she had had a visit from Mr Todd’s sister, Mrs J. Salisbury, of Oamaru, during the day and she had no news of the imprisonment.
