HUGHES HURT
Melbourne Race Fall fN.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. The New Zealand jockey, G. F. Hughes, was slightly injured when he fell on the New Zea-land-bred favourite, Fulmen, in the Moonee Valley Cup, won by the Sydney stayer, Tea Biscuit, on Saturday. Hughes suffered superficial abrasions and bruising when the • 11 to 4 favourite crashed just before the two-furlong post and nearly brought down the New Zealand galloper. Baleno, ridden by P. Hyland Hughes was rushed to hospital by ambulance but his injuries proved to be minor and he left the hospital soon afterwards. Tea Biscuit beat Bore Head (4 to 1) by two lengths and a half, with Bastille (15 to 1) half a head away third. Balenp did very well to run fourth, considering he had to jump the fallen Fulmen. Tobin Bronze was moved up to share equal second favouritism with Prince Grant (fourth in the Cox Plate) and the Caulfield Cup runner-up, Gala Crest. Tobin Bronze made amends for his Caulfield Cup defeat and established himself as the undisputed weight-for-age champion of Australia when he beat Winfreux by two lengths and a half, with the champion mare, Light Fingers, tw*o lengths away third.
