Christchurch. 3330 UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND LIBRARY APPOINTMENTS Applications are invited for the following positions:— PRINCIPAL LIBRARIAN Applicants must hold a University Degree and be an Associate of the Library Association of Australia, or hold equivalent professional qualifications. The successful applicant will be expected, in the first instance, to control the cataloguing section of the University Libraries. He should, therefore, have had experience in a large cataloguing department and be fully acquainted with the principles of alphabetic subject cataloguing, and with the Dewey Classification, of which the 17th edition is used. Current monograph accessions are at the rate of 30,000 volumes per annum. An interest in new techniques would be an advantage. As a senior member of staff, the appointee would be expected to assist with training for Library Association examinations. The salary range for a Principal Librarian is BA4BOO/ 5A6200, and the successful applicant will be eligible for superannuation similar to F.S.S.U. and housing assistance. He should have had experience in a university library or in Special Libraries, and possess a sound knowledge of the principles and purposes of university library organisation, and an appreciation of the services required for both teaching and research. Possession of a degree in science would be particularly relevant. The salary range for a Senior Librarian is 5A4400/8A5400. Superannuation under the State Public Service Scheme will be available. The School of History and Philosophy of Science is responsible, among other things, for courses in history and philosophy of science taken by most students reading for the degree of B.A. The School offers a full range of courses to B.A. honours standard, in which approximately 1800 students are currently enrolled. Plans are being made for the introduction of systematic post-graduate courses. For appointment as lecturer applicants should have a distinguished academic record in one of the sciences and must have completed a systematic course of training at postgraduate level in the history and philosophy of science. For appointment as teaching fellow applicants must have a good honours degree and be otherwise equipped to undertake research for a doctorate in the history and/or the philosophy of science. A teaching fellow must also be qualified to conduct tutorial classes in the history of one or more of the sciences. For appointment as tutor or senior tutor applicants must have a meritorious academic record preferably in one of the sciences, and must have had suitable teaching experience. For appointment as senior tutor applicants should also be qualified to assume considerable responsibility for the management and organisation of tutorial classes.
