READER AND SENIOR LECTURER IN MATHEMATICS Applications are especially Invited from those with particular interests in algebra, analysis or topology. An applicant for the Readership should have published significant contributions to some field of Pure Mathematics. An applicant for the Senior Lectureship should possess the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and have had post-doctoral research experience. (August 26.) READER IN VETERINARY MEDICINE Applicants should hold a degree in Veterinary Science, or its equivalent, from an approved university. They should have made significant original contributions within the discipline of veterinary medicine and, preferably, hold a higher degree. They should have had post-graduate experience in Veterinary Laboratory Medicine, particularly in clinical haematology and biochemistry, and in the application of laboratoryaids to diagnosis. Teaching and administrative experience will be taken into consideration. (September 9.) SENIOR LECTURER (CLINICAL) IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY An applicant should have had a full training in a recognised teaching hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and should have passed the M.R.C.O.G. examination. He should give evidence of experience in teaching and should have an interest tn original research. The appointee will take part in the activities of the Department, including undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, clinical responsibility and research programmes. (September 2.) SENIOR LECTURER TN BOTANY: An applicant should have Ph.D. (or equivalent in research publications) and have a capacity to develop original research and teaching in plant physiology in second and third year courses and to build tin a post-graduate school to work in co-operation with a group of ecologists plant physiologists, plant biochemists, agrophysicists and biophysicists working on the structure, physics and physiology of plant communities. (September 2.) LECTURER IN CIVIL ENGINEERING Applicants are required to have an Honours in Civil Engineering and to have had some professional experience. Research or advanced study in some field of hydraulics or fluid mechanics is desirable. The appointee will lecture on fluid mechanics and hydraulics at undergraduate level and supervise honours thesis projects. (September 9.) SENIOR TUTOR LN LAW Candidates must hold a University Degree in Law. Either the holding of an Honours Degree or higher degree or the possession of some experience in a law office would normally also be expected, though this is not a rigid requirement. It is expected that his duties would involve teaching by the tutorial method either as an adjunct to or substitute for formal lecturing and the correction of exercises. The subjects involved would be one or more of the following, viz., Elements of Law, Criminal Law. Torts, Contract, Legal History and (possibly) Constitutional Law I. (August 26.) TUTOR TN LAW Candidates must hold a University Degree in Law. An Honours Degree would be an advantage but is not essential. Evidence of an interest in research would be an advantage. It is expected that his duties will Involve the preparation for and giving of tutorials and the correction of exercises in subjects comprising one or more of the following, viz.. Elements of Law, Criminal Law. Torts, Contract. Legal History and (possibly) Constitutional Law I. The post will carry possibilities of study towards a higher Degree. (August 12.) The University provides for permanent staff. Superannuation similar to F.S.S.U., Housing Assistance, Study Leave and Travel Grants. Registrar. 2315 UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY SENIOR LECTURER OR LECTURER IN CHEMISTRY APPLICATIONS are Invited for the position of Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and it is likely that preference will be given to applicants with special interests in organic chemistry. The appointee will be required to take up the position on February 1, 1967 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary attached to the position is £l3OO to £2500 per annum subject to a bar at £2OOO per annum but these salaries are currently under review. Commencing salary Is in accordance with qualifications and experience with annual increments normally of £lOO. (The designation "Senior Lecturer” is used to denote members of staff who are at present above the £2060 bar.) Approved fares to Christchurch wiH be paid.
