ROADSIDE LAND
Claims Of Waste The South Island Local Bodies’ Association wants roadside land put to better use than “growing gorse and blackberries.” Mr P. J. Scott (Dunedin) told the association yesterday that thousands of acres of roadside land in New Zealand was being wasted because noone made use of it. He urged that farmers be allowed to extend their boundary fences and rent the land along roadsides. The chairman (Mr R. G. Ramshaw) said farmers in some parts of the country were already allowed the use of this land. The association expressed concern that local bodies had no control over the number or type of advertising billboards erected on railway land adjacent to main highways.
