WELFARE OF STUDENTS
i Conference In Brisbane Miss J. M. Herbison will represent the Christchurch Teachers’ College at the Australian and New Zealand Student Health Association conference in Brisbane in Au<mst. The college principal (Mr George Guy) told the Canterbury Education Board yesterdav;— “As the college grows and we become more involved in the student health scheme, it is important to have as deep an understanding as possible of the work of all people concerned with the phvsical and mental well-being of our students. This conference will have real value in the opportunity it affords for meeting and hearing people with a considerable reputation in their medical, psychiatric; counselling and educational specialist fields, and for the deeper understanding one can gain from discussion with colleagues who are mutually concerned with the welfare of students.”
Miss Herbison will also make a brief study of residential halls in Brisbane. There is also the possibility of her joining a small investigating committee associated with one of the halls of residence to be built on the University of Canterbury campus. This committee will be studying residential halls in Sydney. Canberra and Melbourne. “Both these matters—student welfare and residential halls—are of vital concern not only to our own college but to teachers’ colleges throughout the country,” said Mr Guy.
