Hunts Exempt From Tax

6V.Z'. Press Association) WELLINGTON. All hunt clubs have been exempted from paying income tax. The Hunts Association, at its annual meeting last week, received advice to this effect from the Commissioner of Inland Revenue. After representations by the association secretary (Mr G. L. Tucker), the clubs were found to be legally exempt. The basis of the claim for exemption was that while the hunt clubs derived their income from professional sources, such as race meetings and farming, the income was spent on amateur sport.

Each club holds between 30 and 50 hunts a year.
