(N.Z. Press Association)
WHAKATANE, July 21.
Within hours of attending the funeral of her 36-year-old husband, a Whakatane woman with five children was robbed of £179 in cash and cheques last evening. The money had been given to the widow by friends and workmates of her husband, Mr Anthony Woods, of 152 King street, Whakatane.
The theft occurred when a large crowd of mourners gathered at Mrs Woods’s home after the funeral service.
Mrs Woods had placed the money in her purse which was in one of the main rooms in the home.
The Whakatane police said that the money included the sum of £156 subscribed by employees of the Whakatane Board Mills and a cheque to the value of £lO 4s 6d forwarded to Mrs Woods by the Teteko Rugby Football Club.
There was also about £l3 in cash.
