Somerset faced an innings defeat after the second day of its match against the West Indies at Taunton. J. S. Solomon scored 104, his first century of the tour, and D. Holford 59 in an undefeated sixth wicket partnership of 126 to help the touring team declare at 445 for five.

Then Holford took six for 59 with his leg-spinners when Somerset was dismissed for 158.

■ Following on 278 runs behind, the county lost half its second innings wickets for 90 before C. Atkinson and G. Burgess added 73 without further loss.
