Yesberg Champion For 7th Time
With a superb display of potting last evening, T. Yesberg beat D. Hallum, 4-0, to win his seventh Canterbury amateur snooker championship.
This is the third year Yesberg has completed the snooker-billiards double. With last evening’s win he has now
;- collected 12 provincial indivi- » dual championships. i Experience allied with skill 7 left little to be desired, and " Hallum was soundly and deservedly outplayed. Yesberg showed the form that has won him two New Zealand snooker titles. ' Yesberg made a fine break . of 28 in the latter stages of the first frame to ensure its j safe keeping. Hallum has be- - come accustomed to losing the first frame throughout the J rounds, but against a fine . player like Yesberg this is ■ difficult to overcome. Yesberg took on the role i of the aggressor in the second • frame and the result was an--5 other easy win. i Hallum's tactics of forceful; ■ potting paid scant reward. His' only hope of retaining his ■ititle appeared to he to slow(the game down and becomei more methodical in assessing • the situation and selecting his shots. He adopted this method in ; frame three; but it had no ■ effect on the precision potting ’ of the new champion. Whatever facet of the game he ployed to seek victory Hallum was out-manoeurvred, and ' whatever colour he potted he ’ was out-scored. The final frame ; was a repeat of the previous : three. Notwithstanding Yesberg’s fine performance it was a dis-j . appointing display from the; defending champion. ; Yesberg won the frames, ,62-24, 72-10, 67-13, 72-16.. I
