Computer Aids Shelling

(N.Z. P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) BARIA (Phuoc Tuy Province), July 14. A computer enables guns of the New Zealand battery to blast out a reply to Viet Cong mortar squads within seconds. The computer’s radar gauges the parabola of the mortar shell by catching it in flight for a split second. It knows where the shell lands and can judge the exact position of the mortar by tracing back the parabola. The computer fixes the bearing on a logistical map, the fix is relayed to the battery, gun sights are altered and a salvo of high explosive shells replies to the mortar.
