WINES AND SHERRIES

Several Brands Rise In Price (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 13. The price of several brands of wines and sherries has increased by about 6d a quart bottle. Some brands of sherry have increased in price by 2s 6d for a half gallon. A, spokesman for a leading wine company said the change had been initiated by a recent sales tax ruling. Under the new interpretation the company was forced to buy back from the customer, bottles and cartons not subject to sales tax.

This requirement was impracticable for companies which supplied their product in new packaging.

In the case of his own company, part of the increased price was to meet rising costs.
