WORK STOPS ON COLLIER
No-one To Plug In Leads MX Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 11. A stoppage over an award dispute by 13 electricians employed by the Wellington Harbour Board has affected two ships—the tanker Athel Viscount, which is undergoing annual overhaul on the floating dock, and the collier Kokiri.
When an electrical supervisor in the dock turned on power to illuminate the bottom of the Athel Viscount’s hull and interior sections the power was declared “black” by fitters employed by the Wellington Patent Slip Company. Harbour board electricians normally plug in the power.
The fitters were later allocated jobs that could be done in daylight. The Kokiri, has been unable to discharge the 500 tons of coal lef* in her holds because the job of plugging in the leads to work the wharf plant belongs to electricians.
