Television Blamed For Loss By Buses
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, July 11
Television accounted for a lot of the losses incurred by bus companies in Auckland, said the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr W. J. Allingham) today. “One only has to look at evening buses with two or three passengers on board to see that,” he said. ‘‘Patronage has gone.”
He gave the Auckland Bus Company permission to with-
draw over 200 trips a week to western suburbs.
Mr R. J. Craddock, for the company, said the applications were an attempt to reduce losses suffered by the company over the last few years.
Mr D. R. Jagger-Smith, a public accountant, said that in the year ended March, 1965, the company lost more than £14,000. The loss would be more this year.
