NEW CATTLE BREED
“Jersian” On Show
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) LONDON, July 10. New crossbred cattle which gave richer milk and more beef were shown to farmers for the first time at the Royal Show at Kenilworth, Warickshire. They were produced by the Ministry of Agriculture after 15 years of experiments with 1000 cows. The Ministry’s research farm in Staffordshire has developed a chocolate-brown and white cow called the “Jersian,” which combines the docility and rich milk of the Jersey with the heavy yield and stature of the Friesian. The cross-bred calves have a higher survival rate, grow faster and are easier to handle than their parents. Thirty of them, with further hybrids including the beef qualities of the Hereford, Galloway and Charolais cattle were exhibited at the show.
