Hornby Almost Certain Of League Title
Although there are still five more championship rounds to be played, the 1966 Canterbury Rugby League title is almost certain to go to Hornby.
The only team that has not been beaten in championship and Tavendale Cup matches, Hornby now has a seven-point lead after Kaiapoi’s second defeat of Linwood this season.
underfoot conditions. Both s-idea deserve credit for the good standard of football. Referee: Mr R. Pont.
Marist and Addington moved ahead of Linwood and these, with Hornby, are likely to comprise the top four when the championship is divided after two more rounds. The two second-placed teams had a few anxious moments on Saturday, but each deserved its win. Hornby won quite comfortably at Denton Oval. Results:— Addington 13, Papanui 8. Marist 17, Sydenham 10. Kaiapoi 18, Linwood 17. Hornby 13, Christchurch 4. Championship points (with Vivian Cup points in parenthesis) are:—
