Crushed By Tractor
A farm hand was killed yesterday afternoon when the tractor he was driving went off a narrow road
at Riponui, near x Whangarei, and fell down a 20ft bank, the Press Association reports. He was Edward Ross Cooper, aged 16. son of Mr C. Cooper, of Riponui. The youth was driving the tractor along a road with a running surface of only about eight feet when he saw a truck approaching. Ht drove
to the outside of the road and the tractor capsized down the bank. The youth was crushed. Motorist Killed A motorist died of injuries suffered in a collision between two cars at the corner of Wairau and Archer’s roads, Takapuna, just after 2 p.m. on Saturday. He was: Bruce George Wing, aged 19, a carpenter, of 81 Birkdale road, Birkenhead. He was alone in the car. The driver of the other car, K J. Twin, aged 19, of Queen's terrace, Birkenhead, was held at North Shore Hospital for observation overnight and discharged, today.
Gate Fell on Boy A five-year-old boy was killed when a gate fell on him at the Memorial Park cycle track in Palmerston North on Friday evening. He was Garth Warren Mitchell, son of Mr W. L. Mitchell, of 891 Main street, Palmerston North. Mr Mitchell found his son’s body under the Ijcwt gate at 8.15 p.m. The child had previously been reported to the police as missing. The gate had been removed and placed against the fence in front of the dressing sheds.
