Harrison Fund
Donations received in Christchurch for the national appeal for the John Harrison Memorial Fund now amount to £12,338. The appeal will close on July 16. Yesterday “The Press” received £251, making £4855 since the appeal open two weeks ago. One of the cheques received yesterday came from Oamaru railway men and women. It was for 6 guineas, and represented the proceeds of a shilling collection. A student of Lincoln College, Mr Brahma Chowdary. aged 24, raised nearly £9 on Saturday when he gave a demonstration of yoga in the Fendalton hall. One of the trustees receiv ed £B6 in week-end mail. As well as a number of anonymous donations, this included a cheque for £25 front Nicholls, North, and Nicholls. Other donations received at the week-end by “The Press” included £5O from the Canterbury Jockey Club, £35 10s from Christchurch Boys’ High School, £25 each from the staff and pupils of Lincoln High School and the New Zealand Jet Boat Association, 10 gns each from P. Z. Harris and associates and the Bias Binding Company of New Zealand, Ltd. A cheque for £2O was received from the pupils of Otago Girls’ High School.
