Boy Runs Away After Crash

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 10. A 15-year-old secondary schoolboy climbed out of a shattered car and ran off leaving behind an injured companion, moments after the car crashed at Worser Bay on Friday afternoon. The car, which had been reported missing from its parking place in the city about an hour before, skidded out of control and crashed into a power pole. After it had spun clear of the pole it demolished a concrete wall. The driver who was later found about half a mile away, was seen to climb out of the wreckage and run off along the beach moments after the car had come to a stop. The passenger, another boy, was trapped inside. Both were later taken to hospital, the passenger suffering from concussion, lacerations to the face and a minor neck injury. The driver was discharged after treatment for a cut on the neck.
