Viet Cong Reserve ‘Inexhaustible’

(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright)

HONG KONG, July 8.

North Vietnam’s Army journal “Quan doi Nhan Dan” said that Viet Cong guerrillas in South Vietnam were growing stronger and had an “inexhaustible reserve strength in the rear.”

The article, quoted by the New China News Agency, affirmed the Viet Cong belief in final victory and said the main deciding factor was the foot soldier. The United States had superior arms and equipment, but was in no way stronger in infantry, it said. It was not necessary for the Viet Cong to possess concentrated troop strength approaching or equal to that of die enemy in order to defeat him.

The Viet Cong strategy was to compel the enemy to fight in the way the guerrillas

chose and so to wear him down. This had resulted in the “wiping out” of United States troops and their allies in the Vietnam war, the article said.

“The Army and people of South Vietnam will definitely defeat the local war launched on them by United States imperialism, even if it continues to reinforce its military strength and increases the total United States and puppet troop strengUi to one million .and even if it employs more modern weapons and technical equipment,” the article said.
