ATTACK ON AIRFIELD

SAIGON, July 8. The Viet Cong mounted a 20-minute mortar attack on the Can Tho airfield soon after midnight today and inflicted light casualties on American troops and slight damage to the field and equipment the United States military command stated. About 40 81 millimetre rounds hit the airfield, where a United States helicopter unit is stationed together with Vietnamese military aircraft groups. Can Tho is about 85 miles south-west of Saigon.
