REVISED DRAFT
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 8. The Pentagon running into a lag in Army enlistments, revised its draft calls for July and August. The July quota has been raised by 2000 to 28,500 and that for August by 4000 to 36,600. The Defence Department has asked the selective service system to bring in 31,300 men in September. The calls are all for the Army, with no indication of a similar lag in Navy, Marine and Air Force enlistments. The Defence Department said: “The calls are in accordance with the planned military strength to support Vietnam requirements after allowance for such factors as estimated losses, enlistments, reenlistments, and available training capacity.” The highest monthly call since the Vietnam build-up began last year was in May, ■when 40,600 were called.
