SALT WATER IN BOILERS
Otago Clears Trouble (,V.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 28. The frigate, H.M.N.Z.S. Otago, Is believed to have had condenser trouble like that which crippled the cruiser Royalist. The Otago is serving in the Far East with the Royal Navy. It is understood salt water contamination was found in a boiler and the main feed line on June 20, but this was cleared before the situation became serious. No official reports of the Incident have been sent to the ship’s base in Auckland or the Navy Office in Wellington.
The Commodore Auckland, Commodore L. G. Carr, said today that condenseritis would be reported only if it was serious. “As a former frigate commander I know that this can happen, and that it can be cleared relatively quickly," he said. “A piece of seaweed or a jellyfish can cause condenseritis of a mild form.”
