350 At Hunt Club Ball
Three hundred and fifty guests who attended the Ashburton Hunt Club’s ball in the Winter Garden found an atmosphere of horses, hounds and hare soup. Big bowls of greenery decorated the hall, and the official party was seated close to a gorse hedge amid horses and hounds. Green and red, the club colours, were used in the decorations. Visiting masters wore green and red lapels and each of the cabaret tables had a green or red bottle with green or red candles. Guests were received by the master of the hunt (Mr R. D. Ferriman) and Mrs Ferriman. Mrs Ferriman wore a slimfitting gown of turquoise bro- • cade with crystal embroidery. Official guests were visting masters and their wives.—Mr and Mrs A. McDonald (Brackenfield), Mr and Mrs D. Gould (Christchurch) Mr and Mrs E. Kerr (South Canterbury) and the deputy master for South Canterbury (Mr P. Elworthy) and Mrs Elworthy.
Mrs McDonald chose a blue and green silk frock In a paisley design. Mrs Kerr’s gown, in pale pink chiffon, was cut in a classic Greek style. Mrs W. R. Lemon, wife of the president of the ball committee, wore a gown of emerald green satin-backed crepe. It was slim fitting with a small panel at the back. Mrs Ferriman presented the masters' wives with a spray of violents (the hunt dub flower) and gave each master a buttonhole. The committee, which organised the ball comprised.—
