Justice Dept. Ball

The Justice Department in Canterbury held its first ball on Friday evening. The president of the department’s social club (Mr T. A. F. Withers) said, "For us its an historic occasion. It is one of the few times that all members of the various departments within the department have been able to meet on a social footing. “We have more than 250 people here, from all the divisions of the department, and jalso members of the legal fraternity and the Police Department This is something we hope to make an annual event”

Official guests Included Mr Justice Macarthur, Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., and Mrs Lee; Mr E. S. J. Crutchley. S.M., and Mrs Cruchley; the Crown Solicitor (Mr C. M. Roper) and Mrs Roper; and Mr N. S. Bowie, representing the Canterbury District Law Society, and Mrs Bowie. Also present were: Mr J. K. Gerken, Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr L. Esterman. District Land Registrar, and Mrs Esterman; and Mr |D. P. Clancy, Registrar on the Magistrate’s Court, and Mrs i Clancy.
