Upset Win To Marist XV
MARIST 11: M. Brownlee and B. McAlister tries; K. Miles a penalty goal and a conversion. H. 5.0.8. S: A. Steel two tries: R. Grenfell a conversion. Showing much Improved form, the lowly-rated Marist XV caused an upset by beating H. 5.0.8. The heavy conditions did not help back play, and a heavy ball made handling and passing difficult. However, the closeness of the game and the hard forward play kept the crowd excited. It was a well-deserved win, and much credit must go to the rearranged Marist pack, which revelled in the heavy conditions. A. Steel was always impressive and scored two good tries, the result of determined running. The Marist back-line showed more cohesion, particularly in the inside backs. P. Robinson’s intelligent kicking often had R. Grenfell in difficulties. K. Miles bad a good match. It would be difficult to single out any player in the Marist pack as theirs was a team
effort. M. Miller strove hard to rally the H. 5.0.8. pack but he received little support. Referee: Mr J. G. Bolton.
