MISSED CHANCES

LINWOOD 17: G. J. Abercrombie, E. Kereopa, M. Whittaker tries; G. J. Rosanowski four goals. MARIST 8: L. Mulcare, P. V. smith tries; M. H. Mohi a goal. Marist dominated the first half and scored two good tries, but the scrum monopoly won for Linwood by W. P. Noonan and the probing of the Linwood forwards took its toil in the second half. Inevitably, the Marist defence faltered and Linwood scored two tries in the last few minutes. Goal-kicking failures by both teams were evident. With Marist leading by one point with about 15 minutes remaining. Rosanowski missed three penalties. Marist used three kickers, only one of whom was successful. The wet ball and muddy conditions affected both the kicking and handling. The Marist forwards held their own with the Linwood pack in the loose, but N. M. Diggs injured his shoulder early in the match and was not able to hook. R. J. A. McKenzie played a fine all-round game, but neither he nor J. K. Keremeta could win the ball from Noonan. L. Mulcare tackled tirelessly once more and scored a good try after Mohi had made the initial break. Whittaker and 3. A. Flanagan
