KAIAPOI AGAIN

KAIAPOI 28: Brandon Williams, Barry Williams, M. Price, T. Gage tries; J. E. Bond seven goals. ADDINGTON 23: D. McCosh (2). J. L. White, M. J. Porters, J. H. Fisher tries; R. L. Lanauze three, K. Chick goals. Kaiapoi’s three wins in championship matches this season have been in very similar circumstances. Each time Kaiapoi beat a team that had earlier appeared a serious challenger for championship honours—Addington. Linwood and Sydenham. In the three wins the Kaiapoi captain. Bond has kicked 20 goals. It was Bond’s goal-kicking allied with his leadership—that won the match against Addington on Saturday. Addington lacked a kicker and, although it scored five tries to four, it could not capitalise on its opportunities. Although Kaiapoi scored first, the match appeared safe for Addington when it scored four quick tries and took a 14-5 lead. Had those tries been converted it is doubtful whether Kaiapoi could have wrested the initiative from Addington. Bond and B. McConnon. In the forwards and the Williams brothers and Gage In the backs, were the most impressive Kaiapoi players and McCosh was nippy for Addington. White returned to his former position at centre without too much trouble. Referee; Mr N. Taylor.
