Labour Surplus At Port

Yesterday Lyttelton had the largest waterfront labour surplus for a long time.

Only 231 men were engaged and 430 received attendance pay. The only operational vessels in port were the Tawanui, Holmburn, Holmdale and Pukeko. All but the Pukeko sailed last evening, but the Calm was expected from Timaru before midnight Today the Port Wyndham. Norman, Van Der Hagen and Turakina, all overseas vessels, are due. More are due during the week-end and next week.

Hong Kong Telegrams.— The telegraph service to Hong Kong is normal again, the Post Office reports. With the exception of delivery to a few isolated areas telegrams are no longer subject to delay.— (P.A.)
