WARRANTS ‘TOO COSTLY’
Victoria Rejects Scheme
(N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright)
SYDNEY, June 23.
Victoria has decided against adopting New Zealand’s system of bi-annuaT warrants of fitness for motor-vehicles. The Acting Premier, Mr A. Rylah, said this week: “It appears that the tests would be an unnecessary cost for motorists.”
Mr Rylah said that the State’s traffic commission had recommended against introducing the tests at this stage. The tests were sought by the. Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce. Regular police cheeks on vehicles would continue for another six months to provide the traffic commission with more information on the subject, said Mr Rylah. Recent cheeks had shown that 10 per cent of vehicles ,inspected and discovered unroadworthy were one year old or less.
