Highbank Church
Sir, —On behalf of the original parishioners of the Anglican Church at Highbank, I would like to correct some very obvious mistakes in the account which appeared in ‘The Press” of June 15. The beautiful little church of St. Saviour was opened for dedication in 1910 and consecrated by Bishop Julius in 1913. Residents of the district gave liberally towards the furnishings as well as the cost of the building, and records show that each item was given by a specific local family. Living in retirement are some of the original parishioners who attended regular services, the vicar coming from Methven, eight miles away. A photograph taken at the opening of the church shows the loving care with which the church was built, with attractively elongated windows, tiny l belfry, and lonian crosses at the corners of the steeplypitched roof. The designer of the church was Mrs Mountfort.—Yours, etc., (Mrs) R. MAIN. June 22, 1966. ’
