Rough Rugby
Sir, —I would commend your excellent leading article on rough Rugby. Speaking both as a mother and a registered nurse, I know the dangers of indiscriminate kicking cannot be too heavily stressed, and I, for one, will certainly discourage my sons from playing Rugby in present conditions. For too long we have all encouraged these by not being sufficiently vocal in our disapproval. The “Timaru Herald” also had a similar leading article, so I hope this may stimulate public opinion to influence the Rugby administrators to have no truck with those who regard the field as a place to boot the opposition instead of the ball. —Yours, etc., WORRIED MOTHER. June 22, 1966.
