KAIKOURA HOSPITAL

Land To Be Domain The vesting of a strip of land at Kaikoura Hospital in the Minister of Lands as a domain pursuant to the Reserves and Domains Act was agreed to in principle by the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday. This had been requested by the Kaikoura County Council after receiving a deputation of Kaikoura residents. The hospital board recently rescinded an earlier decision to sell the land to the Railways Department for housing. If the land is vested in the Minister it will come under the control of the Kaikoura Domains Board. The hospital board agreed yesterday to apply to make the transfer on that basis, subject to advice from its solicitor. In the meantime it gave permission to the Kaikoura Hospital Land Development Committee to begin improving the land. If the transfer as a domain was impractical or delayed, the committee would be given a formal lease to establish their security.
