Halt To Dam Core Work
(N.Z. Press Association) OAMARU, June 21. Work on placing core material in the earth dam at Aviemore has been suspended for the winter, a normal procedure taken with the onset of severe frost. Work on this phase of the £2l million hydro-electric scheme would have been halted about a month ago, but prolonged fine weather allowed it to continue.
Men and machines working on the dam base have been diverted to another part of the job and no men have been paid off.
Excavation of the tailrace has been stepped up and to date, some 200,000 cubic yards of material has been lifted from the river bed. Work on this project is described as “quite well ahead.”
