N.Z. BEEF TRADE

Call For More Production "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, June 22. New Zealand might have been guilty of focusing too much attention on lamb production at the expense of beef, the annual meeting of the Dominion meat and wool produce section of Federated Farmers was told in Wellington today. The comment was made -in the address of the chairman (Mr J. P. McNeile) which, in his absence overseas, was read by the acting chairman (Mr F. G. Spackman).

On many New Zealand farms there was potential for increased beef production, the address said, and it was hoped due emphasis would be given to cattle in farm development programmes. The dual-purpose sheep would continue to be the mainstay of farming operations, but cattle had an important and increasing part to play in New Zealand's farm economy. It was known that because of better pasture control sheep thrived when run with cattle. The markets of the world were clamouring for more beef, and it was therefore appropriate to remind the conference of the importance of beef raising and the beef export trade.
