Teachers
Ninety-three teachers and educational administrators from the United States will arrive in Christchurch on July 13 on a study tour arranged by the Comparative Education Society of the United States and the Delta Kappa Gamma Fraternity of American Women Educators. The tour of New Zealand. Australia, and Singapore will cost each about £7OO. During their five-day visit to Christchurch they will undertake a varied and strenuous programme arranged by a committee representing the University of Canterbury, the Christchurch Teachers’ College, the Department of Education, and teachers’ organisations. The party will hear lectures on many aspects of New Zealand education; visit primary, intermediate and secondary schools; and study art, literature, music, politics, and every-day life of the community. They will have a scenic trip Including Rangiora, Loburn, Ashlev gorge, Oxford, and the Waimakariri gorge, and another to Hanmer Springs, including a visit to Glynn Wye station. They will attend an evening concert of the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music on July 16 and also a service in Christchurch Cathedral.
Trains Collide.—Two trains collided head-on about 120 miles north of Athens yesterday, killing four people and injuring nine. Some of the passengers were trapped in the wreckage.—Athens, June 15.
