Overseas Investment
Sir, —Where are we heading? “Oh no! Definitely no overseas control of our news media,” says Mr Holyoake But he apparently does not mind our land being controlled from overseas. Surely, 62,000 acres, when developed, will provide income for the country, as well as employment and incomes for at least 120 families. Thousands of young men are saving hard to buy their own farms. Land appreciation is slapping them hard enough without the possibility of this let-dowr by a Government which has prided itself on helping farmers and settling young men. Besides why on earth are we worrying about looking for new primary produce markets when our own primary industry is being given away to that tantalising dollar which will have all the say with its own produce, and our profits? I would be terribly ashamed to have been allied to a Government which even considered giving away our heritage. —Yours etc. NOT ANOTHER YANKEE STATE. June 13, 1966.
