MOVING TO CAPITAL
Mr A. Tremain’s New Post The manager of the Russley Hotel (Mr A. Tremain) left Christchurch yesterday to take up an executive position in Wellington with South Pacific Hotels, a hotel chain owned by New Zealand Breweries, Ltd. Mr Tremain has been manager of the £500,000 Russley Hotel since it opened in October, 1964. Since coming to Christchurch, he has gained a wide reputation as recipe writer, broadcaster, television personality, ehef, and hotel manager.
Mr Tremain has just returned from a 71-week tour of the United States and Canada, promoting sales of New Zealand lamb oh behalf of the Meat Board. He is a catering adviser to the Meat Board, and will act in that capacity with his new Wellington appointment. South Pacific Hotels, said Mr Tremain, was in effect a branch of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., and ran about 60 hotels throughout New Zealand. “My new job will be an executive position,” said Mr Tremain, “and I will probably start as catering manager for the c npany.” Mr was chef at Warner’s Hotel for five years, and for his last six months there, he was hotel manager. Mr Tremain was president of the Canterbury Hotel Workers’ Union for four years I while he was chef at Warners. | The relieving manager at ithe Russley Hotel (Mr J. Cant) will continue to manage the hotel after Mr Tremain’s departure for Wellington.
