AGE OF MOPED RIDERS

Reduction Sought In ILK. (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A > LONDON, June 9. Teen-agers in Britain may soon be riding 30 m.p.h. mopeds, if the Minister of Transport (Mrs Barbara Castle) agrees to a revolutionary plan. The plan, it is claimed, will help to beat traffic and parking jams. Devised by chiefs of the British Cycle and Motor-cycle Industries Association, the plan asks Mis Castle to reduce the age of moped riders to 15.

In return, they would put single-speed mopeds on the market with a 30 m.p.h. speed limit.

They will also ask Mrs Castle to abolish driving licences, road fund tax, and registration for moped riders and introduce a coloured disc system which would indicate that the machine was covered for third party insurance.
