Wide Range Of Rises
As the result of negotiations in conciliation, new awards had been made for workers employed under the New Zealand Clothing Trade Employees, New Zealand Shirt, White and Silk Workers, and New Zealand Dressmakers and Milliners' Awards, said the general secretary of the New Zealand Clothing Workers’ Federation (Mr R. A. Hill). The increases were 6s 2d a week for femaTe apprentices in their flret year of service, to 9s Id a week in their third year of service. Journeywomen would receive an additional Ils 6d a week; chart cutters. £1 Os 6d a week; stock cutters, 14s 4d a week; pressers, examiners, male machinists and male table hands, 13s 5d a week; and underpressers 13s Id a week.
The new rates operated as from the first day of the pay period in each establishment beginning on or after June 8, 1966. Mr Hill said a new agreement had also been reached for workers employed under the New Zealand Tailoring Trade Employees’ Award, with similar increases for femaTe apprentices as under the other three agreements. For journeywomen employed on coats the increase was Ils 8d a week, and for other journeywomen Ils 5d a week. For tailors, the increase was 16s 7d a week. The new rates for the New Zealand tailoring trade, said Mr Hill, operated from the first day of the pay period in each establishment beginning on or after June 15, 1966. Negotiations for new awards for fur workers, glove workers and felt hatters, he said, would take place in Christchurch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
