WATERSIDE FEDERATION
Port Chalmers
Joins
The Port Chalmers Waterside Workers’ Union has affiliated with the Northern, Taranaki, Wellington, Otago and Southland Waterside Workers’ Federation. The decision of the Port Chalmers union to affiliate was decided by an overwhelming majority in a secret ballot. The union has more than 200 members. This now means that Port Chalmers union has joined all North Island waterside workers’ unions (except Onehunga) and the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union in the move to obtain a national waterside workers’ union. The Dunedin Waterside Workers’ Union, with more than 300 members, remains inside the South Island Waterside Workers’ Federation, as does Timaru.
