David Jeff At Peak "The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. A fast sprint by David Jeff and a solid distance gallop by Fleeting Moment were the highlights of yesterday’s final trails at Woodville. Both horses were at peak for the first day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s winter meeting. Working on the course proper, some 30ft from the rails, David Jeff attracted in his final gallop for the Stewards’ Handicap. Fleeting Moment left no doubts concerning his fitness for the Palmerston North Handicap. He began at the mile and a quarter and was travelling at top speed passing the seven, completed his last six on a slow track in Imin 23Jsec, the final three in 41sec. He was assisted from the five by Comrade, which is preparing for Hastings. David Jeff, right at the peak of fitness, reeled off his halfmile in Slsec with Sir Carl inside him. He clocked 51 for the full distance, running his last three furlongs in 36sec. It looked a race winning sprint. Excite, ready for her first start from J. W. Harris’s stable, covered half a mile effortlessly in 51isec, taking 37 4-ssec for her final three.
