Under-Age Drinkers
Sir, Correspondence on under-age drinkers, taken in conjunction with an article in a weekly newspaper accompanied by unposed photographs, has convinced me that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 years as in England and some Australian States. Whether we like it or not, today’s youngsters will obtain liquor; so why not be realists and allow them to drink in hotel bars where they are under proper supervirion rather than at their own private parties and drunken orgies away from parental or any other control? If politicians have the welfare of our citizens at heart and are not merely votechasing, we should have some action.—Yours, etc., TOLERANCE. June 8, 1966.
