Potato Exports Well Down
Shipments of potatoes from Lyttelton and Timaru this season are well below those made during the corresponding period last year. During the two months to the end of May, 34,286 tons had been shipped from Lyttelton, of which Fiji took 15,862 and Auckland 14,345. May shipments accounted for 19,429 tons. During the fortnight to May 31, 7927 tons were shipped from Timaru of which 7882 tons were for Auckland.
By the end of May last year, 74,318 tons had been shipped from Lyttelton and 44,352 tons from Timaru. The Timaru shipments included 28,608 tons for Australia. There has been no Australian trade this year.
